What an treat to explore such a 600-foot-long, high-ceiling, ~500-year-old lava cave.

I wonder if this web was created by the Happyface spiders?

What a treat to spot the ʻApapane (Hawaiian honeycreeper) bird!

I love the pop of red flowers on all the 'Ōhi'a trees!!

We passed the Volcano House hotel on our way to check out the steaming bluff, steam vents and for views of Halemaumau Crater. Although we didn't stay at the Volcano House, we opted for beautiful accommodations at Heaven's Door.

Kīlauea was "emitting high levels of dangerous gas." I believe they call this vog – " ...volcanic emissions from Kīlauea volcano, which are primarily water vapor (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), and sulfur dioxide (SO2) gas." – ivhhn.org

Luckily, we didn't experience any issues.
