I love zombies, vampires, werewolves, sci-fi and so Halloween season is fun... especially, living near a theme park known for movie-making. Without traffic, Universal Studios is about a 45 minute to 1 hour drive. The cool, breeze evening 71°F made for a comfortable event. Here's the haunted houses we enjoyed this year and why it pays to buy an Express Pass.
Theme Park
Universal Orlando

New 2018 Haunted Houses
2017 vs 2018 HHN
Must-Do: Purchase the Express Pass!
Last year, we didn't have the Express Pass. We only had time for these haunted houses:
- The Shining
- American Horror Story
- Ash vs Evil Dead
- Saw
- Blum House
...and we didn't have time to eat, people watch, or ride any rides.
This year, we learned from our mistake and purchased the Express Pass. It is sooooo worth it to pay extra to jump ahead of the long, long, long lines... some 2-hour wait times standing practically still on your feet. With the Express Pass, we averaged 10-15 minutes from entering the line to finishing the walk-through of the haunted houses! We saw all 10 Haunted Houses in ~3.5 hours... entering the park at 6:30pm and our last scare at 10:45pm
- 6:30 to 7:30 - Stranger Things, Poltergeist*, and Scary Tales
- 7:30 - Carnival Graveyard
- 8:10 to 8:20 - Blum House
- 8:25 to 8:35 - Dead Exposure*
- 8:40 to 8:55 - Slaughter Sinema
- 9:15 to 9:40 - Seeds of Extinction
- 9:48 to 10:04 - Trick 'r Treat
- 10:28 to 10:44 - Halloween 4

We had time to ride the Hollywood Ripe Ride RockIt and Revenge of the Mummy. Unfortunately, Transformers was closed.
We ate dinner at Mel's DIE-in.
By midnight, we were spent. Then, a 25-minute walk back to the car. HHN28 success!!!
Photo Journal of HHN28
Gates opened at 6:30pm. We shopped around CityWalk to pass time.
A few photo-ops in the Scare Zones.
1985 Punk zombies out in this scare zone. Would've loved to hang out here and people watch just for the 80s music... fantastic!
Nearby Harry Potter, a 3-story bus with a creepy talking head.
Revenge of Chucky Scare Zone - hilarious show as Chucky gets to know his audience. Thumbs up!
Dinner at Mel's D I E - in. Love the vintage neon!
