A wonderful date night brings us to Honolulu.

When
Fri, May 9, 2025
9:00pm

The Venue
The Cathedral of St. Andrew
229 Queen Emma Square

Brief History of The Cathedral of St. Andrew
Established in 1860 by King Kamehameha IV and Queen Emma, the Cathedral of St. Andrew holds deep ties to Hawaiian royalty. During her imprisonment following the monarchy’s unlawful overthrow, Queen Liliʻuokalani found comfort among the Cathedral’s community. After her release in 1895, facing ongoing threats, she took refuge there and joined the Episcopal Church in 1896. Her enduring legacy as a cherished queen and active member continues to influence the Cathedral and its congregation.

The Cathedral of St. Andrew in Honolulu showcases a striking stained glass wall, the Great West Window, crafted by John Wallis. This significant architectural feature illustrates scenes from Christ’s life and the Anglican Church’s history.

Purchased tickets by Fever. Pricing probably depended on the popularity of the event, 7pm vs 9pm showings, and zone seating options (A, B, C) but ranged from $43.00 - $69.50 per person.

We purchased Zone C (the very back section of the venue) seating and our tickets totaled $92.94 for the 9pm showing. We opted to sit in the back row.

As the music played, our minds were carried away to past travels to Italy. With the combination of the cathedral's architecture and romantic candlelight, my thoughts were transported to the time we stumbled upon a free opera around the Spanish Steps in Rome.

Conclusion: We were pleasantly surprised that the audience behaved - not a lot of loud chatting or people on their phones. It's great when we can live in the moment. The organizers did announce that no recordings were allowed until the very last song where the performers welcomed us to sing-along to "Bohemian Rhapsody." Had a fun, musical Friday night and would recommend Candlelight Concerts to anyone! I discovered it only this year but I guess these concerts have been around for awhile and is happening in over 100 cities around the U.S. Get out there and treat yourself to an evening of romance and nostalgia. For us, it was another great date night in the books!
