With little shade and limited parking spots on this short hike, it's a good idea to start early in the morning. You can expect stunning views of Makapuu Beach, Koko Head, the windward coast, and Molokai & Lanai neighboring islands. The entire trail is nicely paved but all uphill so I would say it's rated as easy to moderate depending on your fitness level.
We spotted the White Lily flower and Acacia (creamy-white) flower along the trail.
Making up to the top and looking down the cliffs, we spotted a lone honu (aka - green sea turtle). Unfortunately, we didn't witness any humpback whales as they visit the Hawaiian islands in the winter months (December - May).
You don't actually explore the lighthouse itself, but you do have great views of Makapu'u Lighthouse.
After the Makapuu Lighthouse visit, you can swing by Sandy Beach which is not too far from here to watch the crazy shorebreak and excellent bodyboarding and bodysurfers. Bring a picnic lunch!
