With Hurricane Hanna having made landfall in Texas, we had timed leaving Destin, FL as Hurricane Isaias approached the east coast. So much rain with windy weather as we had our marathon drive leaving Florida and getting out of Alabama, Mississippi, to Louisiana… blazing through these states off the I-10 on a 9 hour drive. Yesterday, we boondocked at Buc-ee’s in Katy, TX… only 3 hours from Waco, TX.
We had to passthrough Texas to get home to Arizona… but where haven’t we been yet? As fans of HGTV’s Fixer Upper show, we planned our pitstop at their Silos Baking Co before settling in at Lake Waco Marina and Campground.
Had an impressive 2-day, back-to-back jet ski adventure with The Armstrongs exploring parts of the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. I wasn’t sure I’d enjoy the outdoors in our desert summer heat waves which exceeded 100°F. But wearing / bringing sun protection, having ice cold drinks in a cooler and taking an occasional dip in the water helped keep our cool. Not a sunburn or feeling of heat stroke. Enjoy a glimpse of the area we visited with the videos I’ve put together.
How do we enjoy the outdoors with the high of 104°F here? We are up & at em at 5:30am. Get to Lake Mohave by 7:00am. Although, in hindsight, sunrise’s at 5:23am so, that would be the optimal time to arrive at the lake in order to beat: (1) any weekday crowd, if any (2) the heat (3) the winds.
It’s an early check-in for a morning calm cruise on the West side of the island of Oahu but it’s worth it. The ocean is its calmest in the morning… less wind. Ocean Joy Cruises took us up the entire Waianae coast (west coast of Oahu), from Ko ‘Olina Marina to various points along Oahu’s western coastline. You may see Oahu’s Spinner Dolphins (Nai’a), Humpback Whales (Kohola) [in the winter season], Green Sea Turtles (Honu), and Flying Fish (Malolo) along the way! This ocean adventure allows you to sip on a tropical Mai Tai, ice-cold beer or other beverages and dine on a nice buffet lunch after snorkeling.
Parasailing, in Oahu, was our first time parasailing anywhere in the world! Thank you Hawaiian Parasail for a successful ocean adventure! Can’t go wrong parasailing in paradise in tandem with friends or loved ones. You can stay dry as you’re harnessed at the back of the boat for a dry takeoff and landing directly back to the boat or have the option to be dipped in the water before landing. Enjoy spectacular views of Waikiki beach and Diamond Head about 500′ high in the sky.
