Review: Fernandos Hotel (Sorsogon, Philippines)

Fernandos Hotel - Executive A - Coconut Room #206
  • On December 29, 2014

For a combo Christmas / New Year’s celebration, we had the help of Jessica of to help arrange a 10-day Bicol Region Vacation Itinerary which started in Legazpi. Our first hotel was at Fernandos Hotel in Sorsogon, about 1-hour from Legazpi Airport. We enjoyed our stay here for 3 nights.

PIC: View from the dining area. Up the first flight of stairs is the lobby/entrance. Then the second flight of stairs to the Executive Rooms.

The location has easy access to: ATMs. Massage Service right across the street! Town for the market, groceries, etc. And it was our jumping off point to experience Sorsogon — rice fields, historic churches, waterfall hikes, Bulusan Lake, Mount Mayon ATVing…

We were greeted as we exited our transportation and by the reception staff making for a really smooth checked-in experience into our Executive A-Coconut Room #206. The room is advertised as: Fully Air-conditioned, Cable TV, Hot Shower/Tub, Ref & Tel. We liked its location as it was situated at the farther end of the hotel from the entrance… right above their restaurant (see attached pictures). Next door to the hotel hosts events and evenings can get a little loud but being in Room #206 with the TV on, the celebrations didn’t bother us. We loved the rustic decor where they had used bamboo or abaca materials. Gave you the sense of a home-vibe in the Philippines.

We had met, the owner – Mrs. Cécilia, the next morning. She was always greeting guests and seemed to be doing a lot for the community. Since it was around Christmas time, they held an event next door where the kids of the community would give a show, they handed out presents and everyone ate. Mrs. Cécilia welcomed her hotel guests to enjoy the event and some local food. We had just returned from a full day of touring when she grabbed us to attend the event. We enjoyed the festivities for awhile until our low energy led us away. She said we should come back to eat and we said we’d try. When she realized we didn’t return, she sent someone to bring us a few plates full of food and desserts to our room. That was a great surprise and kindness. We ate everything and thanked her the next morning!

Wi-Fi is important to us and it worked well in their restaurant.
