We had a $75 Shore Excursion Credit from Avoya Travel and used it to experience St. Thomas PADI Discover Scuba Course hosted by Coki Dive Center. It’s only my 2nd scuba dive… first time recently in Cozumel to experience yet another thrill of being underwater surrounded by tropical fish alongside a living and colorful reef in crystal clear, warm waters.

Sun Soakers, Scuba Divers, and Snorkelers alike enjoy a visit to Coki Beach. We jumped in a taxi from the port to arrive at Coki Beach early enough to find shade under a tree. You can rent chairs and umbrellas there, too. If you hear any other guests or want to wait a few minutes to see if others are also going to Coki Beach, transportation will be cheaper.
An added bonus in taking a beginner scuba class with Coki Dive Center is that they allowed us to bring our water cameras to document the adventure. We were fortunate that we were only a group of 3. One other beginner scuba guest tagged along. Yay!
Since communication is limited under water, she used a duck call to get our attention on our excursion. It did the trick, too! What a wonderful idea. Here our guide who found a species of shrimp hiding in the reef below.
Depending on your comfort level, you can be anywhere between 20ft - 40ft below. At times, it was challenging trying to find my neutral buoyancy. At one point, I was on the ocean floor, then the next thing I knew I floated to the top looking down at Bill... shrugging my shoulders as if to say, "I don't know what happened? I can't get back down there!" Our guide was awesome and patient… helping any one of us get back on track. I'm really finding shallow scuba dives enjoyable!
