Only about a 40 minute drive from Tamarindo, we pop in Playa Zapotilla into Google Maps. A local had mentioned how beautiful it was, mostly secluded and that there was a short hike with great views to be had.
Today, we simply wanted a relaxing day as the tides weren’t right for surfing in Tamarindo. In our research before visiting Costa Rica, we remember Playa Flamingo being known for its brilliant white sand and turquoise water. With only a 30min. drive from Tamarindo, we checked it out for ourselves.
Our Costa Rica surf trip had us waiting out the tides, so we went exploring and stumbled upon Langosta Beach Club. What a wonderful ocean side tropical setting. We also brought along with us our trusty travel backgammon to help pass the time.
The events include 9 different types of surfing: four surfboard (10 ft and over) divisions, paipo, alai’a, bodyboard, bullyboard, canoe, SUPsquatch, tandem surfing, and team SUP surfing. It’s an annual event not to miss because it promotes the stoke that surfing gives all of us. It doesn’t feel like any other competition of constant cutbacks for points.
We had an action-packed day of finals here in Makaha, Hawaii. From Tandem Surfing, Supsquatch Surfing and Outrigger Canoe Surfing on big waves… the Bradah Mel’s event really showcased a variety of ocean sports enjoyed by many in Hawaii. If you haven’t seen big waves before, plan accordingly. Winter = North/West. Summer = South.
