Boating: Christmas Eve Snorkel with Spinner Dolphins

December 24, 2015 |

Fortunate to be living in the resting grounds of Hawaii’s spinner dolphins, they touch on our hearts! We’re in their natural environment and the dolphins choose when and how long they want to share their turf with you. So fascinating to observe their behaviors in the ocean but also have the ability to listen to them vocalizing with their squeaks, whistles, and echolocation clicks.

2015 10th Annual Bradah Mel’s Waterman Surfing Championship (Makaha, HI)

December 6, 2015 |

We had an action-packed day of finals here in Makaha, Hawaii. From Tandem Surfing, Supsquatch Surfing and Outrigger Canoe Surfing on big waves… the Bradah Mel’s event really showcased a variety of ocean sports enjoyed by many in Hawaii. If you haven’t seen big waves before, plan accordingly. Winter = North/West. Summer = South.

Boating: Fresh Catch – Leatherback (lai) and Manybar Goatfish (moano)

November 18, 2015 |

New to the boating community, this was only our 4th voyage out on the Swell Life. We would’ve typically waiting for a glassy morning to jump aboard "The Swell Life" and go fishing but with gusting winds for days lifting we went out of our comfort zone. Light winds and a few bumps in the ocean from an incoming swell, we head out… not too far from shore… with our fishing gear – Penn fishing poles and squid bait. Here’s a video summarizing 4 hours of our adventure catching Lai and Moano for the first time. Read More

Boating: Our Eco-Tour to See Spinner Dolphins in their Natural Habitat

November 3, 2015 |

Our 3rd voyage aboard the Swell Life only joining the boating community this past October. One of the main reasons we bought the boat is to enjoy meeting more dolphins (nai’a in Hawaiian) in our Hawaiian waters. The most common dolphins found here are the Hawaiian spinner, spotted (kiko), bottlenose and rough-toothed dolphins. Here’s a short video of how amazing our dolphin tour went this day. Enjoy! First Time: Backcountry 4×4 Off-Roading in Hawaii

October 28, 2015 |

Discovered something we could do with our recent Jeep Commander purchase (originally purchased to tow the boat out of the harbor during emergencies). An off-road adventure, only minutes from home that offers four wheel drive (4WD) owners panoramic views of the West and North shores of Oahu (permit required). Enjoy the video! Read More

Boating: Benefits of Boat Ownership in Hawaii

October 9, 2015 | 2

We’ve joined the boat community from our recent 1992 Four Winns 207 Quest CC purchase. Looking forward to cruising the Oahu coastline for Dolphins (Nai’a), Whales (Kohola), Green Sea Turtles (Honu), & Flying Fish (Malolo). Plus, the simple enjoyment of a sunset cruise, checking out local snorkeling spots, fishing and taking friends out. Here’s a glimpse from our 2nd voyage on the Swell Life Read More

Review: (Booking.com) Lost Horizon Beach Dive Resort, Bohol, Philippines

January 16, 2015 | 2

Bohol Island Attractions such as the Tarsiers, Chocolate Hills, and Loboc River Cruise, were enough reasons a visit to Bohol was on our travel itinerary. With a bit of research, Alona Beach had been promoted as a mini Boracay Island by locals for its "pristine stretch of white sand, turquoise waters and palm trees." Specifically, Lost Horizon Resort seemed to be the perfect location that would cater all our needs. We didn’t have many. Simply, we wanted to (#1) eliminate any transit time to get to the beach, plus (#2) be in close proximity to a variety of restaurants and finally access (#3) high-speed WiFi / Internet. We stayed Jan.10-16 for $396 / ₱17,670 and highly recommend a stay at this resort and here’s why. Read More

Review: (Airbnb) Manora Guest House in Talisay City, Cebu, Philippines

January 10, 2015 |

We enjoyed staying in Aurora’s Manora Furnished Apartments with Wi-Fi between Jan.4-10. We chose the Manora Guest House because there would be plenty of room for 3 guests (Bill, my mom, and myself), we’d have Internet access plus, it was just the next town over from Cebu City closer to the Port where we would have to jump on a ferry to our next adventure to Bohol. It was a special trip since none of us have ever been to Cebu and I flew my mom, from Manila, to see a different part of the Philippines. Fairly new travelers renting from owners versus staying at a hotel, you always have some doubt if the ad matches what you actually get upon arrival. Happy to say that the pictures, represented on Airbnb, matched what we saw when we walked into the apartment. Read More
