Sightseeing & Activities
Last time in St Lucia we went with Spencer Ambrose Tours for a challenging 4-mile roundtrip hike up 2,619 feet above sea level on the iconic Gros Piton. This time around we wanted to chill. So, we decided to try Carnival Sailing and participate in their Full Day Land & Sea Adventure. It allowed us to admire the beautiful mountain scenery from a catamaran on the way to Soufriere Harbor to visit Diamond Falls Botanical Gardens to see the 17-meter/56-feet falls that tumble down the mountain from the volcano; get down and dirty at the La Soufrière Drive In Volcano for a mud scrub and soak; lunch at Fond Doux Plantation Resort; check out Marigot Bay; then, finish off the tour snorkeling.
Our port excursion today takes us touring Antigua on a 52-foot powercat that fits 49 passengers but they set the tour with a max of 31 people. St John’s cruise port is on the northwest side of the island and our tour takes us exploring the northeast side. Highlights include: snorkeling, birding, Hell’s gate and a hike at Great Bird Island where we also had wonderful lunch.
I’ve been on the Allure of the Seas (Ocean View Stateroom 7510) and Liberty of the Seas (Interior Stateroom 8361) with Royal Caribbean so let’s see how an Interior Stateroom 9077 compares in stability, storage space, cabin amenities, the noise level and what I love about interior cabins.
First learned about The Neon Museum on Instagram. Vegas is known for their bright lights so why not take homage to it’s historic neon light history?! I only wish we were in Las Vegas in the summer months so we could enjoy a warmer visit in the evening. We opted for a tour after we visited The Mob Museum closeby.
We were hoping to eat at The Summit (Snowbird’s mountaintop restaurant while enjoying views of snow-capped slopes and the Salt Lake Valley) but we didn’t realize in this early season that they were only open on weekends. Only opened in 1971, Snowbird’s Aerial Tram takes us on a 1.6 mile cable and up 2,900 vertical feet which takes about 10-minutes to reach the top of Hidden Peak – Elevation of 11,000 ft. Here I’ve captured some views of the experience.
Our first Halloween in Florida and about 30 miles from home, we found a Zombie Paintball Hayride on the Smith Family Ranch, in Lakeland. The first time I heard about such an activity was on the Travel Channel. I don’t know if the episode was talking about Millers Thrillers (Spring Hill, TN), Night of Terror (New Jersey), or ScareFest (St. Louis, MO).
If you’re patient enough to stay in one place and observe the animals, you typically can witness some different behaviors on every visit… especially for any newborns (i.e. on our visit – the orangutan newborns) at the zoo. We have an annual pass… only $129 / 2-person and there’s so much to see still after only two(2) visits so far this season. There hasn’t been a crowd yet as we’ve visited on weekdays.
Croc Encounters is a non-profit conservation and educational facility that provides a sanctuary to unwanted reptiles. On a Saturday morning, we drove 25-minutes from home to enjoy some time with the reptile world. It was a self-guided tour where we were given some turtle food and the opportunity to take a picture with a 3-ft to 4-ft baby gator.
