Only my 5th time playing around with my new DJI Mavic mustering up the courage to fly it over water. The Mavic isn’t waterproof. Before this day, I’ve been immersing myself watching drone video how-to’s on YouTube.
My 4th go with the drone, as I learn to fly the DJI Mavic. This time, we set off on a short hike up the beautiful mountains of Oahu where we had shelter from the sun in a shallow cave. …
Having a cousin who grew up in Oahu but currently lives in Washington, he showed us one of his favorite places to snorkel in West Oahu. Jumping aboard our 20-foot motorized Mako 204cc, we head out exploring for spinner dolphins and humpback whales to allow the sun comes up and warm us all up. We arrived where the local power plant was visible about 100 yards from the beach area. But what lies beneath… underneath the water are two giant cooling pipes that pump warm water out. The flowing water is more than strong enough send you doing underwater cartwheels but I called it the “Underwater Pipe Elevator.” Enjoy the video.
January 1st, 2016 was my official commitment to hike more in life while living in Oahu. By December 31, 2016, I had 29 hikes under my belt ranging from beginner to advanced hikes. At this point, I’ve only been able to put together 3 videos in this post but many references to my hiking journal photo albums.
2 Tickets: Upper Level, Section 26, Seats: K 1 and K 2. Sting started at 8:05pm so we had only missed one song. What a turnout! Parking was a challenge as the Blaisdell’s lot was full ($7.00 parking). Luckily, next door at McKinley High School they had opened up their parking for $6 and proceeds went to their ROTC program. Perfect! With 2 encores (“hana hou”), the concert was energizing and went by too fast. Thank you Sting for adding Hawaii to your tour list. For those who couldn’t attend, check out his setlist…
My best experience with Oahu’s Spinner Dolphins was just my Christmas Eve Snorkel with Spinner Dolphins in the warm waters of Hawaii. But no complaining here. I always feel blessed to see them wild and free in the ocean. Enjoy the video.
Out hiking in West Oahu and found what I imagine as the dreamy tree house I never had as a kid. But I know hunters come to this area to hunt game birds, goats and wild boar so this must be their tree stand. I just had to climb and inspect it further. Wouldn’t you?! First time doing this. Here we go.
First Time: Another great hike with Hawaii Trail and Mountain Club. Starts at the Friendship Gardens in Kaneohe. The hike offers great views of Kane’ohe and the bay, Coconut Island (aka Gilligan’s Island), Pali Notches, Stairway to Heaven, and the Mokes. Fortunately, this day’s hike offered great weather of partly cloudy skies with refreshing breezes on the ridge.
