What did Santa give Bill for Christmas this year? Answer: a Dueling Tree – steel targets made for two in head-to-head competition or simply to practice speed and accuracy. Its best feature – the 6 target paddles reset by gravity.
It was a chilly, windy day for a Polaris 4×4 Off-Roading ride but our neighbors were up to it so off we went to find a few hills to practice our driving skills on. Hills turned into what I call rollercoasters here in the Arizona desert. Safety in numbers as we were shown how it’s done and we simply mimicked our way into success and a new found confidence.
Had an impressive 2-day, back-to-back jet ski adventure with The Armstrongs exploring parts of the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. I wasn’t sure I’d enjoy the outdoors in our desert summer heat waves which exceeded 100°F. But wearing / bringing sun protection, having ice cold drinks in a cooler and taking an occasional dip in the water helped keep our cool. Not a sunburn or feeling of heat stroke. Enjoy a glimpse of the area we visited with the videos I’ve put together.
How do we enjoy the outdoors with the high of 104°F here? We are up & at em at 5:30am. Get to Lake Mohave by 7:00am. Although, in hindsight, sunrise’s at 5:23am so, that would be the optimal time to arrive at the lake in order to beat: (1) any weekday crowd, if any (2) the heat (3) the winds.
Last year, I was on the hunt for hiking / water sandals. The following brands always emerged: Chaco, Keen and Teva (which range from $50 – $100+). Save your money when shopping for sandals. Check out Atikas which are under $30.
It was 100°F+ weather, at home. We decided to have a shady, summer escape to cooler weather amongst the granite rock formations and in elevations of 6,000 to 8,400 ft in the Haulapai Mountains. With 10 miles and 2,300 acres of hiking trails, plus 14 trails to choose from, we hopped onto the Potato Patch Loop Trail.
We say “Goodbye!” Left on Saturday but didn’t get home until Sunday. Although we checked out 3 different accommodations (… Best Western Tamarindo Vista Villas and Villa Amarilla Beachfront Hotel …) in Tamarindo, this beachfront stay was the best. I’ll miss:
