Croc Encounters is a non-profit conservation and educational facility that provides a sanctuary to unwanted reptiles. On a Saturday morning, we drove 25-minutes from home to enjoy some time with the reptile world. It was a self-guided tour where we were given some turtle food and the opportunity to take a picture with a 3-ft to 4-ft baby gator.
"There are a handful of places that stand out as excellent locations for wildlife watching in Florida… but the place to see alligators is in the home of the Gators, Gainesville. Located at the north end of the prairie, the La Chua Trail provides an excellent place for wildlife watching, with an elevated boardwalk and lengthy dike out to an observation tower." – Florida Hikes
4.5 of 5.0 stars on both TripAdvisor and Yelp. Not a zoo, you imagine yourself in the Serengeti as you tour areas of the park either on foot or by tram. The highlights of our visit were being kissed by a giraffe and camel, feeding tigers and petting a giant python, but also watching hyenas swallow their food whole and listening to the roars of the lions throughout the day.
I’ve been looking forward to this drive-thru wildlife adventure since I caught an episode where it was highlighted on Travel Channel’s – Trip Flip. We arrive around 2:30pm, after visiting Montezuma Castle, as the animals are more active either earlier in the morning or later in the afternoon.
Our 3rd visit to Belize. Our choice of port excursions were to visit the Mayan Ruins of Altun Ha (back in Mar.13, 2014) and to Snorkel with Nurse Sharks and Rays (more recently Oct. 4, 2018). This time around, our party of 4 go cave tubing at Nohoch Che’en – a national park throughout which the Caves Branch River runs with the added bonus of a zipline adventure. We will be tubing an area carved out of the limestone foothills of the Maya Mountains and where the river exits an underground cavern. Let’s go!
On our 3rd visit to Roatan, we were with family and wanted to introduce them to some local wildlife. We arrive by Carnival cruise, and the tour operator picked us up from the port. Arch’s Iguana Park was only one stop in-between a bit of sightseeing and snorkeling. We were all looking forward to learning more and feeding the wild iguanas. Enjoy the video.
Sloths remind me of dolphins with their Mona-lisa smile. Whenever we return to Roatan, we always make a visit to see the sloths. Our first adventure to hold a sloth was back in 2014 travels… specifically, during a Carnival Conquest cruise. Check out our video summary of the experience while learning a few facts we gained during the tour.
We arranged this port excursion outside of Carnival Miracle (as we did a past excursion when on Carnival Conquest). Typically, the cruise arranges tours to Stingray City but in massive boat loads. It’s not our idea of enjoyment brushing shoulder to shoulder with a crowd to get a glimpse of wildlife. We read a lot of great TripAdvisor reviews (4.5 out of 5 stars based on 114 reviews) about Action Water Sports. It’s actually our 2nd time using this company as we had just been here just last month. We reserved 2 jet skis as single riders (Total: $220) through Grand Cayman Cruise Excursions (Island Marketing Ltd).
