Have you heard of the fun animal counters you can experience in Roatan? We visited the two options on our past cruises. There’s the Monkey and Sloth Hangout and/or Gumbalimba Park. If you love monkeys, you’ll love how up close and personal you will be walking through their habitat.
Our 2nd time experiencing this snorkeling port excursion here in the CoCo View Channel near Fantasy Island and the French Cay area of Roatán. Enjoy a preview of what you’ll see snorkeling the Prince Albert tanker.
Need ideas for a fun ocean adventure while in Roatan? Try snorkeling near Fantasy Island and the French Cay… the CoCo View Wall. Honduras is part of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System – the second largest coral reef system in the world. It stretches from Belize, to Cancun through the Riviera Maya and up to Honduras. There’s always a possibility of seeing: sea turtles, tropical fish, eels, channels and caverns… something different every time. Here’s a preview of what we saw.
On our 3rd visit to Roatan, we were with family and wanted to introduce them to some local wildlife. We arrive by Carnival cruise, and the tour operator picked us up from the port. Arch’s Iguana Park was only one stop in-between a bit of sightseeing and snorkeling. We were all looking forward to learning more and feeding the wild iguanas. Enjoy the video.
Sloths remind me of dolphins with their Mona-lisa smile. Whenever we return to Roatan, we always make a visit to see the sloths. Our first adventure to hold a sloth was back in 2014 travels… specifically, during a Carnival Conquest cruise. Check out our video summary of the experience while learning a few facts we gained during the tour.
Not only a great opportunity for wildlife photography but a chance to pet animals while walking through a beautiful botanical garden on a beach-front park preservation at 20-acre Gumbalimba Park. Our tour wasn’t an official photo walk, but I created my own photo scavenger hunt as the park features white faced capuchin monkeys, exotic birds and other indigenous island animals. Enjoy a glimpse of the park through our photo walk.
We arranged this port excursion outside of Carnival Conquest – Caribbean Cruise. It was very affordable to enjoy the day in Roatan from the scenic drive West and East through villages to visiting the wildlife sanctuaries and getting up close and personal… in this case… a Sloth. We didn’t know what to expect from visits to these wildlife sanctuaries and so we were very delighted to see and hold a Sloth… although, I don’t know if it’s a guaranteed experience by the tour vendor. This particular sloth was more social and had a good temperament for visitors. We were told usually they’re up in the trees so it was a great treat!
We arranged this port excursion outside of Carnival Conquest – Caribbean Cruise. It was very affordable to enjoy the day in Roatan from the scenic drive West and East through villages to visiting the wildlife sanctuaries and getting up close and personal… in this case… Iguanas… which remind me of a legendary, mythical dragon.
